Job Description

We are seeking a remote, full-time Senior Database Administrator with 5+ years of database engineering, administration, and operations experience. The right candidate will operate in a fast-paced environment as part of the client’s architecture modernization team, contributing to database optimizations and conducting proof-of-concepts. You will also take ownership of database administration within the current architecture.

The duration of this project will extend through March 2025 with likely quarterly extensions through September 2025 and beyond.

Our client provides a cloud-based ERP platform to hundreds of energy industry customers delivering market-leading field service management, field data gathering, transportation, production, accounting, and land software solutions. Backed by private equity, our client accelerates business performance, improves operational efficiency, and reduces costs.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with data engineering, analytics, and ERP teams aligning database strategies with business goals
  • Lead database administration and optimize relational databases (e.g., SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL) and NoSQL databases (e.g., DynamoDB)
  • Support ERP database migrations, upgrades, and performance tuning
  • Conduct database performance tuning, indexing, and query optimization for relational and analytical workloads
  • Leverage strong experience of big data tech stack and multiple could platforms
  • Help secure access and permissions in multi-tenant SQL servers
  • Analyze and recommend performance optimization strategies for single and multi-tenant database environments
  • Assess and recommend VM and disk configurations in cloud platforms like Azure and AWS for optimal performance
  • Assist DevOps team in automating routine database tasks for cloud-hosted and on-premises databases
  • Set up and maintain database replication strategies, including transactional replication for real-time updates and scaling
  • Ensure data availability, consistency, and integrity across ERP systems and analytics platforms

Experience

Required

  • Excellent English verbal and written skills
  • 5+ years of strong experience in database engineering, administration, and production operations in the cloud - specifically MS SQL, Databricks, Azure, Aurora PostgreSQL, AWS Athena and AWS RDS and any flavor of NoSQL databases (e.g., DynamoDB)
  • Hands-on experience with cloud database solutions and infrastructure in Azure and AWS, including optimizing VM and disk configurations for cost and performance
  • Expertise in high-availability (HA) clusters, read replica management, and transactional replication
  • Experience with database performance tuning and optimization
  • Proficiency in SQL and one or more programming languages, such as Python / Bash
  • Knowledge of data modeling, quality, security, and governance principles and practices
  • Experience with big data platforms (e.g., Hadoop, Spark, Delta Lake, and Databricks)
  • Familiarity with database monitoring and database DevOps tools (e.g., Datadog, Grafana, and Azure Monitor)
  • Exposure to Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools like Terraform or CloudFormation
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
  • Proven experience working effectively in a vibrant, dynamic startup environment
  • Trustworthy, team-oriented, and transparent
