Senior Back-End Software Engineer - Payments (Stripe)

Job Description

We are seeking a full-time, remote Senior Back-End Software Engineer – Payments with 5+ years of back-end development experience including a strong background in Node.js and Stripe payment processing integration to join the engineering team of our U.S. client. Working closely with product stakeholders, you will play an integral role in building industry-leading product.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define, design, and ship new applications and features
  • Build and enhance advanced applications using Node.js
  • Design and implement functionality to communication with Stripe payment APIs
  • Create, publish, and consume data through clean API endpoints usually using GraphQL end points
  • Provide estimates for features, bug fixes, upgrades, and new projects
  • Participate in clearly and concisely documenting applications and custom-built frameworks
  • Write automated unit and feature tests enabling continuously delivery of your great work
  • Maximize development efficiency by continuously discovering, evaluating, and implementing new technologies
  • Support teammates with good communication and feedback during code reviews
  • See the big picture and support the client’s mission of facilitating better pet care

Experience

Required

  • Excellent English communication and interpersonal skills
  • 5+ years of engineering experience working on consumer-facing (B2C or B2B), high-volume, commercial software products and services
  • 2+ years of experience with Node.js and TypeScript (bonus)
  • 2+ years of Stripe payment processing and gateway services integration experience
  • Experience with object-oriented programming patterns
  • Experience with scaling and performance improvement
  • Knowledge of PostgreSQL or other relational / non-relational database systems
  • High execution mindset while balancing the risk vs costs vs timeline
  • Experience creating and consuming API’s (preferably with GraphQL)
  • Familiarity with AWS cloud services (server setup a bonus)
  • Team player eager to learn from and mentor others
  • Proven delivery experience in a vibrant, dynamic startup environment

Desired

  • University degree or relevant industry experience (optimally a technical or engineering degree)
  • Experience integrating with other payment processing platforms (e.g., Apple Pay, Braintree, Shopify, PayPal, and Square)
  • Experience with DynamoDB and Elasticsearch
