Job Description

We are looking for a remote, full-time Senior AI Engineer with 5+ years of software and AI/ML engineering experience. Candidates must have a strong background in Python and either Golang, Node.js, or Java experience with a strong desire to adopt Golang as the primary back-end technology. 

In this position, you will be at the heart of client’s product innovation, responsible for designing, implementing, and operationalizing AI-native services that transform the utility sector. This role combines applied AI/ML expertise with strong back-end engineering skills, ensuring the client’s agentic systems are not only functional but scalable, secure, and production-ready.

As a key member of our engineering team, you will report directly to the CTO and operate within small, agile teams alongside software engineers, security experts, and product managers. You will own the full lifecycle of AI services from data ingestion and model training to real-time deployment and monitoring while continuously adapting to evolving requirements in a fast-moving, high-stakes industry.

It harnesses AI at the enterprise level to better orchestrate customer delight, facilitate power optimization, improve the health of the grid, and unlock flexibility at scale. Funded by a strategic industry partner and one of the founders at Groupon, the client is poised to transform how utilities run and how customers experience energy.

Responsibilities

  • AI Systems Development: Architect, fine tune, and deploy AI agents purpose-built for utility use cases, including predictive operations, customer engagement, and energy optimization
  • Back-End Integration: Build APIs, microservices, and orchestration frameworks that seamlessly connect AI models with enterprise systems and grid-level data flows
  • Pipeline Ownership: Design and manage the full AI pipeline ingestion, embeddings, retrieval, evaluation, and continuous deployment ensuring reliability and scalability
  • AI Risk Mitigation: Address vulnerabilities unique to AI, such as model drift, bias exploitation, adversarial robustness, and hallucination control with sensitivity to regulated environments
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with software engineers, data specialists, and security teams to integrate AI capabilities into the broader client OS, embedding AI by design into every product release
  • Speed of Delivery: Operate with urgency, delivering breakthroughs in code and AI services on cycles measured in weeks, not quarters.

Experience

Required

  • Excellent English communication skills
  • 5+ years of applied ML/AI engineering experience, ideally with exposure to enterprise/mission-critical systems.
  • Strong proficiency in Python and either Golang, Node.js, or Java (non-Golang developers will learn and adopt Golang on the job)
  • Expertise with ML/LLM frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, LangChain, or equivalent
  • Experience with vector databases, orchestration frameworks, and modern MLOps practices.
  • Track record of deploying AI services in production
  • Strong grounding in cloud-native architectures (AWS, GCP, Azure)
  • Analytical, collaborative, and comfortable with ambiguity.
  • Ability to thrive in small, high-velocity teams, balancing experimentation with production rigor
