Job Description

We are seeking a full-time, remote Senior Database Administrator with 8+ years of database administration experience. This position requires someone with strong experience as a PostgreSQL DBA, who has owned a production environment and was responsible for the uptime, high availability, and resiliency of the platform. In this job, you will contribute directly to the success of the client’s software solutions by managing PostgreSQL databases, servers, and processes across multiple product lifecycle environments.

The company’s solutions manage land, production, accounting, and transportation for E&P operators, crude oil purchasers, transporters, haulers, investors, and accounting firms. Their customers benefit through the automation of the most complex business processes to reduce operating costs, save time, and increase profitability via reporting, analytics, and decision support systems that were once exclusive to the major integrated oil companies.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and optimize PostgreSQL databases, ensuring they run smoothly and efficiently
  • Troubleshoot and solve complex database schemas and warehouses, bringing your strong analytical skills to the table
  • Collaborate closely with our development teams to understand requirements and design/deliver solutions that meet their needs
  • Utilize your expertise in ETL processes to integrate data effectively across our systems and warehouses
  • Leverage your experience in relational database systems like PostgreSQL, MySQL, and Oracle to produce highly efficient solutions that includes stored procedures, functions, and views
  • Take charge of installing, upgrading, and maintaining database management software to keep everything up to date
  • Automate manual tasks to improve efficiency and minimize downtime, showing your passion for innovation
  • Participate in a 24x7 support rotation, ensuring databases are always operational and ready to perform

Experience

Required

  • Excellent English communication skills
  • 8+ years of experience as a DBA managing both SQL databases and data warehouses
  • 5+ years of experience with PostgreSQL, including performance management, query optimization, and database health analysis
  • Strong understanding of database technologies, including logical and physical design, automation, documentation, installations, PL/SQL programming, query and system tuning, resource contention analysis, backup and recovery, standby, and replication
  • Skilled in shell scripting (e.g., Bash, Python, and PowerShell)
  • Proven experience producing complex stored procedures and queries and defining ETL procedures/processes that integrate multi-format and multi-source data into data warehouses
  • Deep understanding of modern security best practices and a proven track record of implementing secure solutions
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to bridge gaps between technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • A strong aptitude for tackling complex challenges with right-size solutions that mitigate costs while assuring exceptional end user experiences
  • Demonstrated ability to thrive in environments that are constantly evolving and occasionally ambiguous
  • Interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate with software engineers
  • Trustworthy, team-oriented, and transparent

Desired

  • University degree in Business, MIS, Computer Science, or Engineering
  • Certifications in AWS and/or PostgreSQL
  • Experience administering database clusters and setting up a bidirectional replication
