Automation Lead

Job Description

We are seeking a full-time, remote Quality Assurance Automation Lead with 8-10 years of QA experience to join the software engineering team for our U.S. client. Primary duties include all aspects of the software quality assurance life cycle with a focus on testing including automating new feature enhancement and regression testing as well as maintaining a highly agile test environment. This key individual should have experience making decisions and working both independently and as part of a dynamic team where everything you do makes a difference. Additionally, the right person must have experience leading an automation team including being accountable for the team’s deliverables, providing technical guidance, and assisting with troubleshooting as needed.

Our industry-leading client provides cloud-based business automation software for over 2,000 independent upstream and midstream oil & gas companies in North America. The company’s solutions manage land, production, accounting, and transportation for E&P operators, crude oil purchasers, transporters, haulers, investors, and accounting firms. Their customers benefit through the automation of the most complex business processes to reduce operating costs, save time, and increase profitability via reporting, analytics, and decision support systems that were once exclusive to the major integrated oil companies.

Responsibilities

  • Communicate effectively in English both verbally and in writing with stakeholders
  • Lead and mentor the QA automation team, providing guidance and support to team members
  • Work closely with development, product management, and other stakeholders to ensure quality is embedded throughout the software development life-cycle
  • Evaluate and recommend adoption of appropriate automation tools, technologies, and platforms based on identified needs and team expertise
  • Create and implement test automation strategies that align with the overall goals and quality standards
  • Design and develop robust and reusable test automation frameworks
  • Analyze requirements and acceptance criteria and oversee the creation and maintenance of automated test cases, ensuring they validate functional and non-functional requirements
  • Integrate automated tests into the CI/CD pipeline to ensure timely feedback on code quality
  • Analyze test results, track quality KPIs/metrics, and provide regular updates to stakeholders on testing progress and product quality
  • Identify potential risks in the testing process and implement mitigation strategies
  • Continuously evaluate and improve testing processes and practices to enhance efficiency and effectiveness
  • Conduct review meetings to collaborate and share test case status, discuss concerns and risk items, drive comprehensive test coverage, and assure general team alignment
  • Track defect and bug resolution progress and results using the client defect tracking system
  • Work well under pressure with deadlines
  • Display flexibility and proficiency in setting priorities

Experience

Required

  • Excellent English communication skills
  • 8+ years of experience testing commercial software including functional, bug verification, regression, user acceptance, and user experience testing
  • Minimum 5 years of team leadership experience with a minimum team size of 4
  • Experience with test automation tools such as Cypress, Ranorex, Tosca, Selenium, Postman, and/or Appium, among others
  • Accomplished at devising all manner of test plans and test cases - writing them and executing them
  • Understanding of Agile methodologies
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills

Desired

  • University degree or relevant industry experience (optimally, a technical or engineering degree)
  • Familiarity with the oil & gas industry
  • Familiarity with the transportation/logistics industry
